I say amber flags and not red flags because I don’t like to be dramatic or doomsday-like, and make it seem that if you have any these your relationship won’t work out.

However, these are some potential warning signals, which could lead to difficulties in the relationship - especially if you tick multiple.

I think challenge in small doses is a good thing, and ticking only 1 or 2 amber flags (along with 3/7 or more green flags) could actually work well for you

But if your relationship ticks 3 or more amber flags, there may be a cause for concern.

1. Opposite Mars Signs

Mars represents aggression, and oppositions can be a threatening dynamic because these signs can feel like they’re going head to head with each other. Mars is not one to back down from a fight, so when a couple have Mars opposition, the likeliness of fighting, bickering, disagreements and arguments can go up, which can get intense.

Mars represents our physical energy, so when our physical energy is being exerted to constantly go up against our partner, this can become physically draining.

2. Challenging Venuses

Venus is the planet of love, harmony, and relationships - so by nature it doesn’t like to fight or be challenged by being in a square or opposing position.

If your Venus signs are in challenging aspects, it can be an indicator of struggle love, or having to fight for a relationship in some way.

3. Disconnected Mercuries

Mercury can take a challenge more than most planets, so I wouldn’t be as worried about squares or oppositions here (although they can be tricky to navigate in their own way).

Disconnected Mercury signs in a couple are the most concerning, because it suggests they can’t relate to other’s logic, humour, or way of processing information. At best this couple could sometimes struggle with things to talk about, and at worst they’ll be completely bored and unstimulated together.

  • Catherine’s Mercury in Cancer and Elom’s Mercury in Aquarius (Love Island S10)

  • Paige’s Mercury in Virgo and Adam’s Mercury in Libra (Love Island S8)

  • Destiny’s Mercury in Aquarius and Harrison’s Mercury in Capricorn (Love Island USA S5)
